Ticking, chiming and ringing are a way of telling a story, and this is one of the largest collections of them on the market.

Tiny mechanical movements, rattling gadgets, or large gear mechanisms of the steampunk kind — the same library covers all three, because it was recorded in the workshops of several clockmakers rather than assembled from one clock.

At a Glance

  • 440 sound files holding more than 2300 individual sounds
  • Six kinds of clock grandfather, wall, desk and alarm clocks, pocket watches, and many small mechanisms
  • Loopable ticking at different speeds
  • Chimes and bells the largest single jump in sounds-per-file in the collection
  • Mono and stereo captured using the LCR recording technique
  • Spare parts too rattling, snapping, clicking and handling

The editingAll sounds carefully edited and natural sounding

A clock is not one sound but a mechanism running at several scales at once. That is why the largest group here is not the ticking but the mechanics: 182 files carrying over 1450 sounds, against 98 files of ticking carrying 98.
