Time Textures Expanded builds on the original Time Textures: 12 new instruments, 150+ new presets, a Flow slider for legato transitions, and live repetition elements, on the same particle engine.

The engine holds two sound emitters, each firing particles cut from an individual instrument source, and the mod wheel drives several of their parameters together, so one turn carries a texture from intimate to spherical. The field names Inception, Arrival and Dune 2 as the scoring style it is aimed at.

At a Glance

  • Over 360 presets the field’s figure for the whole library, of which 150+ are new
  • 37 instrument patches up to six round robins and up to five dynamic layers each

  • Six emitter controls named Attack Volume, Seed, Note Select, Spread, Gain and Pan
  • 22 GB uncompressed and the requirements ask separately for at least 13.76 GB of free disk space

02The Engine, the Content and Requirementsas stated
Two emittersEach produces sound from an individual instrument source
Mod wheelThe field says four basic parameters in one line and five in another, and then names five: Dynamic Control, Movement, Flow, Octaves and Speed
Per-emitter controlsAttack Volume, Seed, Note Select, Spread, Gain and Pan — six named
ArticulationsStrings: tremolo and staccato. Woodwinds: tenuto, triplet tongue, staccato. Brass: tongue staccato, flutter marcato, muted staccato. Keys: harp, felt piano and grand piano, with harp harmonics and prepared grand piano samples
Patch count37 instrument patches is stated both for the engine and in the expanded key features; the field does not say whether the 12 new instruments sit inside that 37 or on top of it
Host and systemFree Kontakt Player, Kontakt 7.10.1 or higher; macOS 10.12 or higher, or Windows 10 or higher; 4 GB RAM, 6 GB recommended; at least 13.76 GB of free disk space; some presets need an Intel i7 or higher

An engine that scatters a sample into particles lives or dies on what it was fed. The field’s claim for this one is that the particles come from acoustic recordings rather than synthesis — 37 patches with up to six round robins and up to five dynamic layers, with section articulations to fade in over the top.
